Work in Progress: Honoring Childhood Memories with a Barbie Memorial Tile

​Behind every tile I create is a story — sometimes joyful, sometimes heartbreaking, but always meaningful.
This Barbie-inspired memorial tile is still in progress, but it's already capturing the vibrant, playful spirit of the little girl it’s meant to honor. From her love of pink hearts and iconic ponytails to the sparkle she brought into her family’s life, this piece is more than just ceramic and glaze — it’s a lasting tribute.
The background is finished in my signature crackle texture, symbolizing how even the most fragile things can still be beautiful. I’ve hand-carved and painted Barbie’s silhouette, added sweet hearts, and the lettering will be detailed and softened to match the tone of the piece. Each line is carved with care, using a tattoo machine — something I’ve uniquely adapted to claywork.
This is just one of the many custom tiles I make for families grieving a loss — each one is a one-of-a-kind tribute, created with heart, story, and soul.
